Tarpaulins for Agriculture and Plantations: From Harvest Ground Sheets to Goods Covers

Plastic tarpaulins may be needed at several stages of plantation and agricultural work. To choose appropriately, distinguish between ground sheets for handling harvested produce and covers for goods. Conditions of use determine which specifications to ask the tarpaulin supplier about.

1. Define the tarpaulin's main function

In its Technical Guidelines for Rice Postharvest Handling, the Ministry of Agriculture discusses using tarpaulin or plastic ground sheets for drying paddy rice. The sheets can help collect the grain once drying is complete. This procurement guide focuses on material and size selection; drying practices should follow crop conditions and agricultural technical guidance. Read the reference ↗

For covers, state what will be covered, the stack dimensions, and whether the tarpaulin will be outdoors or under a roof. For ground sheets, explain the underlying surface and tools that may contact the material. One specification may not suit every task.

2. Choose tarpaulin sheets or rolls

Tarpaulin sheets may be considered when the finished dimensions are known. Rolls are useful when several cut pieces or further processing are needed. Before buying a roll, calculate cutting and joining requirements so the material quantity is not based solely on net area.

  • Measure the length and width of the area actually used.
  • For covers, allow for stack height and material extending down the sides.
  • Add allowances for joins and tie-downs according to the installation plan.
  • Confirm whether quoted dimensions refer to the raw material or finished product.

3. Check material, thickness, and finishing

State the material requirement if already decided, then match it to the PE or PVC variants offered. Ask for thickness or weight per unit area, color, dimensional tolerances, and edge construction. Type codes and colors do not replace technical data for the chosen variant.

For outdoor use, discuss sunlight and water exposure as well as the tie-down method. UV resistance and water resistance must be confirmed for each type. If the tarpaulin will directly contact food produce, confirm the material's suitability for that contact before ordering.

4. Plan use and storage

Inspect the installation area for sharp objects and friction points. After use, follow the material care instructions and store the tarpaulin clean and dry. Record areas that are frequently damaged so future choices reflect actual usage patterns.

For agricultural and plantation businesses around Teluk Naga, photos of the work area can help explain requirements to DEXPLAST. Include dimensions, quantity, application type, and desired timing. Quotations are prepared after specifications and availability are confirmed.
